Why it
matters.
The American theater has historically excluded womxn and BIPOC folx from leadership and autonomy. It has denied us not only a voice in popular culture, but it stifles our power politically. We, at PST, are on a mission to change that.
At PST, we hold the responsibility for being the historians of our culture. Our shows reflect the lived experiences of our audiences and for many, it may be the first time they see themselves on stage.
Our post-show talkbacks and facilitated community conversations address local issues while providing resources to those in need. Our free classes and events provide neighbors space to connect, heal, and allow their imaginations to run free.
We are striving to shape ourselves and others into future community leaders and collaborators. PST has done a lot with very little — and now, with continuous drastic cuts to the arts, we have even fewer resources to amplify our voices and preserve our histories.
